The Flash

When Barry Allen was a child his mother Nora Allen was killed and his father Henry Allen was wrongfully accused of her murder. As an adult, Barry goes to work as forensic scientist for the police in Central City to try and prove his fathers innocence and get him released from prison.

While working late one night, Barry is struck by lightning, falls on a shelf, and gets doused by a cocktail of chemicals. The combined reaction gives him the ability to tap into the Speed Force, a dimensional reality that can manipulate space-time. Now enhanced with super speed he becomes The Scarlet Speedster , also known as The Flash – “The Fastest Man Alive“.

While The Flash’s obvious power is the ability to run fast he can actually do everything fast. He can learn fast and he can heal fast too. He can run up buildings and vibrate his body at different frequencies to phase through solid objects.

While he may not seem as physically imposing as some of the other DC heroes, the fact that The Flash is able to control time itself makes him one of the most powerful heroes in the DC roster. Always pushing himself to go faster and breaking his former limits the Flash has been known to run so fast that he can actually travel back in time, altering history as we know it. He also invented a device called the Cosmic Treadmill to achieve even greater time travel.

Barry is known for frequently being late which of course is ironic since he’s The Flash.

His true love is Iris West who eventually becomes his wife. The Green Lantern Hal Jordan is one his best friends. The Flash Family includes a number of speeders including Wally West and Kid Flash.

His arch nemesis is Eobard Thawne aka the Reverse-Flash – a time traveler from the future with similar powers as The Flash. Like Batman, The Flash has a sizable and memorable rogues gallery. Literally calling themselves The Rogues, they are led by Captain Cold, and include Mirror MasterHeat Wave, the Golden Glider, the Weather Wizard, the Trickster, the Pied Piper, Top, and Captain Boomerang. Another famous villain is the super-intelligent gorilla: Gorilla Grodd.

Many of Flash’s villains are locked up at Iron Heights Penitentiary in Central City.

The Flash is one of the only superheroes faster than Superman.
